BRING IT ON!!!

RRU LEARNERS
Bring it on!!

Welcome to RRU's first sports shout out! I hope you all had a safe and wild adventure last Halloween weekend. Ate lots of candy, didn't go overboard on the alcohol disguised water bottles, or wine on the boat. Maybe you took it easy and merely stole your younger siblings tootsie rolls out of the pillow case, donated some coin to Unisef, and watched some bikini clad hottie running away from a serial killer on TV. Whatever you did, I bet it was fun, and hopefully you found all of your missing items (lip gloss, keys, camera, your memory). So now that the parties over, essays, accounting tests, midterms and final projects are catching up to us. I think it's time for a change of pace! So....

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE SPORTS SCENE?

1) Ski/Snowboard Trip info will be sent out in the New Year. It's going to be the best weekend of the year. So get pumped now! Maybe we should make it 80's Ski Fest.....prizes for best neon full piece suit and mullet combo..... ?

2) Kerry Wadsworth, manager of the Rec Center, has been kind enough to block off time for RRU learners in the gym!
TEAMS: Chad has put together the roster for the 06/07 Spring Training League! Check out the link to your right called "RRU Teams" for details.
Sports Starts MONDAY NOV.6th. We will appoint captains the first week so DON'T MISS IT IF YOU SIGNED UP! Pinies, nets and balls will be supplied by the rec center as well as a binder with all "drop in" information. You will also need to sign a waiver at the rec centre for liability issues. START THINKING OF TEAM NAMES NOW! (I personally know team 5 for Volleyball is going to win, but, hey, we could always use a little warm up-team 4, that trophy was NEVER yours to start with)

THANK YOU--> Before we move on, I would like to extend a giant thank you to Mahdiyar from Communications! He has spent hours designing this site. Without his expertise this never would have come together. Thank you Mahdiyar, I can't wait to see what else we can accomplish this year!

Swimming with the Sharks

BAAC is Swimming with the sharks

wow. we are busy. can you breath? Here's a tip: get a doctors note, and you can get a free massage with RRU's Green Card (it's covered by our health plan you pay in tuition). So, relax, unwind and stop the stress. Visit the friendly ladies in Grant for more info.

Here's some good news and some bad news. (good news) This site kicks butt so much that (bad news) all the other coherts want to steal this fabulouse idea. I compromised, and decided that we will make this site available to all students at RRU and be used strictly as an information gateway linking the rec center and outside activities. (good news) it will probobly be linked from RRU's main site so RRU's activities will have more exposure, and also create a student lifestyle aspect to the site! (bad news) we must abort class quotes like Greg Burts from last week. However, this will help you meet new people in school.

RRU announcments:

We finally had the Reps meeting. Here is a summarized version of Sunday's 8 hour retreat
  • planned 2 major events for winter and spring;: Ski/Snowboard Trip & Tofino Trip

More info to come!

  • In the works of putting together RRU League Teams

Will have details to you by next week!

The calendar of events are still in the works, in the meantime I have been posting drop in classes on the white board in Nixon. Please take a look at this, and also at the WANTED:Work out buddy sheet. Three have signed up--> keep adding to it and help each other out!

RRU in action Future events:

What pumps you up? The results.

Soccer- 2 votes Kickball - 8 votes

Slowpitch: 3 votes Nude Mud Wrestling- 2 votes

If we look at these stats, mud wrestling's popularity could be the newest addition to the Olympics. Matt, I think you should get on that.

Others that were mentioned but didn't make the cut:

  • power yoga, pole dancing, thrash metal(whatever THAT is) high jump, bocce ball, football, croquet & capture the flag

Kickball wins by a landslide. Spring league will start in the new year. If you feel it nessesary to have a rec, ahem, beer leage prior to this date, please arrange amoungst yourselves and then let me know times so I can post it! Bianca has more info for you if you wish to try out your kicking skills.

BAAC, time to get sweaty!!

I'd like to welcome you to the first posting of RRU In Action!

This Blog is going to include updates, a calendar of events and links to sports related websites. It also gives YOU the opportunity to take part in activities going on at RRU. You can do this by posting comments, after which I will review and reply. I would like to extend out a warm thank you to Mahdiyar. His expertise in computers, time devotion and excitement in building this entire blog site was truly amazing. Without his generous help, this never would have come together!

RRU announcements:

I have a selection of photos from things we have done as a group this year. I plan on taking lots more, and was wondering does anyone NOT want their picture on this blog? It is public. If you do not want your face on here, send me a private e-mail (RRU address) and I will not post one with you in it. If you ok with your photo on here, I promise to respect your privacy and only include relevant, tasteful pictures. Thanks guys!

Time to get sweaty!

We have also added RSS to the site- you know what that is now(thanks Gil) so use it!!

Fitness tip of the week: How to Whittle your Middle

Yes. We ALL ate and drank too much this weekend. As Sarah.T. exclaimed, "The new turkey ring MUST go!!"Try these 5 tips, recommended by shape magazine, and that turkey will be gone faster than you can say butcher!

1) Eat plenty of fibrous foods
2) Create a strength training routine that addresses all of the major muscle groups
3) Drink plenty of fluids
4) Participate in a cardio activity most days of the week
5) Incorporate the Plank Pose into your ab routine (below)

MP3 picks of the week:

numa numa~o-zone
maneater~nelly furtado
i like the way you move~body rockers
no limits~jock jams
miss murder~afi

Goal of the week:

After class twice this week, go for a walk, run, jog, roller blade or bike ride around RRU's outercampus. It only takes about 20 minutes along the path, and it may smell like some nasty fish down by the water, but the fresh air will be good to clear your head (especially after Gil's class!)

BAAC Quote of the week:

Greg Burt: "Wood is good. It makes canoes"
